Deepak Sahu & Madhu Raj
03 November 2014
I met Madhu Raj from Kormangala Bangalore on Shaadi.com with the help of a mail from Shaadi.com on prospective matches matching my profile. I am a Bihari, born and brought up in Manipur and she is a Tamilian born and brought up in Bangalore. She had just uploaded her profile and I was the first one to send her the interest (I came to know this from my wife Madhu). She immediately accepted it even without going through my profile which I came to know later from her. Two to three days went by as there was no response I gave her a call as I was a paid member, she was in Girinagar Anajaneya Temple and she told me that she has not gone through my profile and will call me back. She did not call back and I had to call her again after two days; once again she was in temple. She messaged that she needed some time and it would be good for us to talk and chat to know each other better before we meet and proceed further. We continued messaging each other and wishing each other daily via message first then phone call and also discussed few professional and personal problems in brief. She told that she needed about 10 days before she could meet me and that as she was having her cousin’s marriage and would be busy with the functions and would meet me after that. Even before the completion of 10 days I requested her if we could meet up on a Saturday or Sunday. She agreed to meet me on 04/19/2014 which was Saturday. She had fever but still she came to meet though I insisted that we can meet up once she feels better the next day but she did not listen to me. We met at Cuppa in Indiranagar for a cup of Coffee and talked about everything else in the world other than us. I was confused if she will be able to adapt to Bihari culture and lifestyle though I knew she is very good at heart. I took some time though she was sure of me at the first meeting itself , which I came to know later and she chose me by picking a chit in front of her Baba photo (Shirdi Sai Baba) where she got a YES for me and a NO for another prospective groom from Shaadi.com. I took some time so that I can prepare mentally and do some ground work with my family to take it forward. One guy from her work place proposed her in the meantime and she was upset. She wanted to know if I am fine with her or she should say yes to the guy. She wanted me to come and meet her mom if it was a yes from my side. So I decided to meet her mom and family on a Saturday two weeks after our first meeting. In between I met her again and we went for Ice Cream in Baskin Robbins and it was Ugadi holiday. I wanted to have tea but there were no tea stalls so had to settle with Ice Cream after walking for about 2 KMs. I met her Mom and Aunt on 04/05/2014. In the meantime I talked with my family and convinced them to take this proposal forward. My dad was not at all ready for this marriage, but I managed to convince him with my Brothers and Sister in Laws help along with Mom by the grace of God and Sai Baba. After this her mom, Brother and Brother in Law came to Kammanahalli to meet me and see my home and finalize things. I had called my landlord Uncle and Aunty and also my best friend Sylvester who is my Skating Teammate/partner. He interpreted between me and Madhu’s mom. Now we had to fix the date of marriage. I was invited to Madhu’s home for further discussion. I went there on Second Saturday of May and we fixed the date for 22nd June and once again Sylvester and his daughter were my companion and help on this. I took a bouquet of red roses and it was a surprise for her. She liked it very much. Now started all the work and it was like every day we were in Raja Market to do shopping for our marriage. She worked a lot to have all arrangements organized properly for the marriage. She created the website (e-Invite) and also worked on the Wedding Invitation Card It was hectic time till the marriage. I had got my Mom, Dad, younger sister and close friend who is very close to our family for the marriage. We finally got married in Champakdhama Temple, Banneraghata Road which turned out to be a combination of our Bihari Ritual and also Tamil Rituals and customs. Reception was at Hotel Ramanashree which turned out to be a grand wedding with lots of wishes and blessings from both family and friends. Thanks to Shaadi.com for bringing us together.
